This is the third sister from this family that I’ve had in front of my lens, and they have ALL been gorgeous. Jessie was no exception, and I know it’s hard to believe that someone that looks this beautiful could be pretty on the inside too, but Jessie is! She’s a total sweetheart, and wasn’t afraid to be a little silly in front of the camera, which I loved!

Dani rocked this shoot with her awesome wardrobe and sweet guitar that coordinated so perfectly with her red hair and freckles!

A lot of dancers have great technique, but it’s rare to find one that dances with their soul. I first noticed Krista in a ballet class a couple of years ago, and I could tell just from watching her in class that she was one of those dancers. There is an indefinable quality that some dancers possess- a natural awareness of line and style, an ability to convey emotion through movement-and it’s something that can’t be taught. Krista has all of those qualities, plus a great personality, and she’s humble and nice too! There are no limits for you, Krista! I can’t wait too see what you do with your dance career!

I don’t even know where to begin with Megan. This girl was so ridiculously photogenic and such a natural in front of the camera…

One of my favorite things about working with high school seniors is the unique and creative clothing options they so often bring. Like this American Indian inspired dress that Hannah brought- LOVE!

Brianne came from Omaha a few weeks ago to kick off the official start of my class of 2011 senior season! It was almost unbearably hot out, but Brianne was all smiles and full of energy the entire time. And of course, I was thrilled that my first senior of the summer showed up with red hair and freckles!

Emily is an actress in NYC who heard about me through our mutual friend, Emily Ernst. She contacted me about shooting some new headshots and portfolio photos for her when I was in the city for a few days last month, and I was thrilled that we were able to make it happen. We started out in Brooklyn for some headshots, stopped for lunch at Bubby’s in Dumbo, (highly delicious!) and then headed to the Flatiron District for some modeling portfolio/fun pics. We couldn’t have asked for better weather, it was an absolutely perfect spring day in New York. And Emily ROCKED the camera, as you can see…
Emily’s makeup was done by the wonderful Derya Derman. I highly recommend her if you are in the NYC area and looking for a makeup artist. She is awesome!

This stunning beauty is my little baby niece. Well, she WAS a little baby just moments ago, but then she suddenly morphed into a 15-year-old young woman. I have no idea how she did that so quickly, but I’m loving every minute of watching her grow up. Luckily for me, she is always willing to model for me, so we went out last week for a “just-for-fun” shoot, and brought along my favorite tulle skirt. I LOVE the combination of the pink tulle and the back-lighting in these pics, I think they have a kind of romantic, fairy tale feel. As we were walking to our car, a little girl who had been watching us for a while came up and asked Savannah, “Are you a real princess?” CUTE!

Jackie is my last 2010 senior! We first met up in the fall to knock out a yearbook photo, but due to the cold, blustery weather, decided to finish the rest this spring. Our first attempt at spring photos had to be rescheduled, once again due to weather, and it was threatening to rain during this shoot as well. Fortunately, the weather cooperated with us this time, and we were finally able to finish up. It was worth the wait for me! I love the pics we got!
I start Class of 2011 shoots next week, and I’m super excited! If you are finishing up your junior year and are interested in having me take your senior pics, shoot me an email! I’ve got a few openings left for the summer months, and I’m booking into September and October now as well. My availability will go fast, so don’t wait!

Kelli is a longtime friend of mine, and she’s been in front of my camera many times, which is lucky for me because she is an amazing model. She’s an actress in New York now, (a film she’s in, Freakonomics, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last month!) I think this might be one of my favorite shoots we’ve done so far, and Emily was there as well, which made it even more fun! Click here to check out Kelli’s website.
Speaking of New York- I’ll be in the city this week! This is going to be a short and sweet trip, I leave tomorrow and come back to Nebraska on Saturday, but I’ve got a busy week of shooting, so I’ll have more New York City photos to post soon!
Also, check out the video after the pics for a behind the scenes look at this shoot. Special thanks to Tim Mather and Emily Ernst for shooting the footage. More videos on the way! You can also subscribe to my brand new YouTube page!

We were losing light rapidly, and we had not planned on shooting in the dark so I had not come prepared for that- i.e. I had one little flash with me and no light modifiers, except for the tiny little dome diffuser that came with my flash. I’d actually never used that little diffuser before, and it’s definitely not the same as a shoot-through umbrella or softbox, but it works in a pinch! And it always helps to have friends with you to act as human light stands.
